What does it mean to be fearless?

Posted on Oct 4th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 04, 2008:

It's to be free.

On accepting that all your fears are but figments of your imagination, as nothing's wrong, the whole idea of withholding yourself from living is released!

I'm being brash and crude about this, I confess. Because I'd like to lay this squarely on the table: that all we fear is in our heads mostly and we can rarely identify with certainty what exactly we are scared about...

I add to this, there are too many stories of persons with unlimited thinking that are charting their waters daily, without complaint, and yet often without their full 'able bodied' ability...

These people are what may be called 'free spirits' and they fit the profile of those I consider to be fearless in my opinion...

Peace and love to all and everyone.

The people in it...

Thank God there are still people with heart, with truth, with dignity, with principle, that still desire the best for themselves, their loved ones, their communities, their world.

And that they are willing to risk ridicule, ostracism, personal sacrifice and in many cases own suffering, in order to set such things in order in their little tiny corner of the world.

Thank God!

And the evidence of God in us...

Thank God!

Love to all loving friends.

Happy GAIA Meetings in England

Posted on Oct 15th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
Hello friends!

I love writing updates to my friends here on GAIA because it's such a great place to show love and unity in our world despite all the [often unconscious] efforts at fear-mongering which persist around us. I find, just being human in life, makes such a difference when interacting and I repeatedly wonder if life would be less difficult if we all came down while simultaneously stepped up to being human and to simply living... Somehow I think I know the answer to this lol

I recently did another trip 'offshore' as it was, and with all the Mercury retrograde ongoing, I had a lovely chance to reflect on some aspects of life and living, and walked away quite satisfied with my decisions over these years, the biggest of which is to embrace my life here in Barbados and definitely to show love to whoever I meet because it simply makes life easier in the big picture... That is the way of the universe, after all.

A really special 'attachment' to this trip was to meet up with two friends from the GAIA community while I was in England. We had resonated quite early in our online meetings and it was so great to have the chance to see them in person, to spend some time talking about the 'big things' and to feel hope for all the world since differences never formed an ounce of our time together. We each have different backgrounds but it didn't matter one bit; indeed, the one important thing which we shared is that we tune in to the moment and receive so much in an instant, and can therefore enjoy even the brief interactions quite a bit. How great is that?!

Sherri, Anges and Paul at wagamama Bristol 08

Paul is such a gentleman and peaceful spirit! I thank him greatly for saving my arm by helping with my bags at Gatwick Airport; after my fall in Holland this was a blessing for certain! And for commuting with me cross-country to Bristol by bus. We had such a great time exploring a bit of London and Bristol together [and eating greatly hahha]!

And Anges' beautiful, warm, grounded energy full of love did and still does wonders for my body and my spirit as I write this. Her spontaneous reiki treatment on my achy shoulder and bruised thigh helped, even in that short space and time. I love that it didn't seem strange that we were doing this at the wagamama lunch table, packed with students from the nearby Bristol University... we were in our own protected little world there, weren't we? But like Anges said, that's where I live lots of the time and it seems to work quite well, so why stop now? lol The students were even happy to take the picture for us!

I feel like the meetup was a definite high point of my visit abroad where doom and gloom about financial meltdown and bla bla bla blather could have been the biggest memory possibly. This didn't come up too much, thank goodness. In fact an emphasis on positivity and making changes in our spaces was our dominant theme and this was enervating. :D

More updates as time permits!

Peace and love to all friends out there.

Sending my blessings to you.

Sherri

How did you start on your spiritual path?

Posted on Oct 15th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 15, 2008:

Depression; deep dissatisfaction with my work, my life; inner conflicts daily as it related to my job and, well, me... I had to ask myself tough questions and the answers were just as tough. The biggest one was about letting go of 'job security', paying the bills, etc.

Then I did it; I wrote the letter of resignation and watched God give the nod...

Lots and lots of disobedience on my part since then, but a certainty that the Universe approves of me taking the plunge, especially when I remain open to learn. It's a lot LOT less painful then...

Aren't clouds beautiful?

Shot taken while in Bristol recently...

Great days to all of us :D

What keeps us from sharing our sorrow?

Posted on Oct 16th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 16, 2008:

I think for me it has been to keep my sanity! There's been so much to be sad about in my life that if I started digging into it without having the tools to manage it I think I'd lose it... literally!!

I do it now; like I said since I feel like I'm better equipped to explore it responsibly and at peace. But I'm pretty selective with whom I do this since if I'm just going to depress someone that's just pointless [IMO].

If I share in the interest of release to the universe for cleansing then that's good...

If I share with another who can assist me in answering my own questions surrounding the sorrowful event(s), then again I think, time well spent...

If I share in the interest of connecting with others who have had similar heart ache, then I think I am building community and friendship...

But then after the sharing is over, I think it's time to move onto celebration that we overcame that period of sorrow. Don't you?

Aren't puppies adorable?

All my love to friends and spirits everywhere :D

Lifesablur
My other favourite astrologer Jonathan Cainer [there's Soul Garden, Mr. Hottie Hottie Hot Hot as well, of course hehehe] reminded readers this morning about predictions around Comet Holmes late last year...

Here's what he said:

While we wait for those economic 'hiccups' to subside, here's a reminder of what this page contained on December 10, 2007: "To some, it has been a fuzzy circle in the sky. To others, the strongest celestial signal for at least a decade, if not centuries. Soon, we get to assess its importance for ourselves. As Comet Holmes finally fades, we enter the era that it came here to herald. So, what exactly does it portend? Some point to its last flare-up, in 1892, and the 'great panic' that swept America the following year as stock market prices collapsed..."

And here are some details on the 'Panic of 1893'. Full link from Wikipedia here...

The Panic of 1893 was a serious economic depression in the United States that began in 1893. This panic was an extension of the Panic of 1873, and like that earlier crash, was caused by railroad overbuilding and shaky railroad financing which set off a series of bank failures. Compounding market overbuilding and a railroad bubble was a run on the gold supply and a policy of using both gold and silver metals as a peg for the US Dollar value. The Panic of 1893 was the worst economic crisis to hit the nation in its history to that point.

Read on...

Hopefully mankind will learn this time... hopefully...

Present family: it's got such diversity in it, it's probably like a DNA strand in itself... !

Above is a recent pic of some of us, from when we met up in Holland....

I was privileged to be introduced to new family members as I grew, starting in my 20s. Indeed I learned what real family is when I walked away from my birth family finally, after too many years of being rejected...

But look what I walked away to? Sincere, generous, open minded, open hearted, truly beautiful people, also appreciative of the love in this world and willing to share it.

And funny, family members are still walking into my space even now. Seems that there's no limit to this family, this wonderful human family.

Several of you I've met right here and I'm happy to have met you all...

Love to all of you, friends and family.

Which foreign country or culture do you feel most drawn toward?

Posted on Oct 18th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 18, 2008:

Eastern, which is kind of broad, but both India and China are really exotic and interesting probably because of their very old enduring civilisations, and me an old soul and everything.

I'm drawn to wisdom of the sages; I find that quite interesting, because it does shortcut the nonsense of day to day living with less surprises.

Thus yogis, Lao Tzu, Buddha et al, have definitely captured my interest. Not too many 'Western' philosophies can I say the same about...

'Quality vs. Quantity...'

Posted on Oct 22nd, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene

Cross-posted from www.hq-2.com

It is unfortunate that I'd have to put the 'vs.' between those two words as I consider the path that politics, economy, commerce and human wellbeing is taking today, since this whole idea of competition has actually been the major downfall - if I permit myself a judgment - of society and human existence as we know it.

For whatever reason, the idea has been sown that there is a need to hoard 'stuff' and 'beat out' the competition, in the [mis]understanding that there is only a little bit of 'things' and that someone will set out to do their best to take the little share away... It's been we versus some obscure, unknown somebody for a while there...

It is why I hesitate to use competitive terms even in passing, because I don't subscribe to the theory of scarcity whatsoever, and find a place for myself and all of us if we so choose to pursue it; not necessarily competing with anyone... except perhaps with ourselves?

To me, an optimised use of our energies, towards self enhancement, sharpening up our skills, doing what we do best, even better and better, is an ideal way to make sure that we are not all caught up in a battle for a scarce item for the public! That self improvement effort - a positive use of energy as opposed to the destructive force of external competition - helps bring us into the realm of Quality, and Quality has a way of simply speaking for itself, and making its own way into its space...

It's funny how the 'average' person will 'fight' to stay in a sub-optimal circumstance by insisting on 'that's the way life is... life is so so hard!', and resisting change, but will not fight to have the best life at their disposal, which comes from and with self challenge and self actualisation...

It would be funny if only it were not so sad, since mediocrity and the scarcity mentality go hand in hand and are the joint effectors of the world as we know it: with poverty of spirit predominant and substantial inequity and imbalance abounding.

I'm suggesting we change our mental competitor... to ourselves and not to our neighbour, that we step up to be our best selves and then we'll start to see what real potential our human existence could possibly be...

It's just a suggestion though...

With best of everything to friends everywhere,

Sherrilene

That, and letting go of any sense of obligation to anybody :)

And one day at a time; I'm getting better at it.

What have you learned from moving?

Posted on Oct 25th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 21, 2008:

As it relates to moving from one location to another:

That I don't change regardless of physical location. My needs remain, my values are consistent, my love for beauty and nature are paramount...

As it relates to moving vs. stillness:

That movement can generate fresh energy but stillness has its place and should be treated with respect and reverence. Indeed my meditation is critically important as I attempt to live in this world of complications and keep my peace.

Love to all.

Friend, Sherri

I love diversity :)

If you see me laughing out loud...

Posted on Oct 25th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
... here are some good reasons!

If you knew me in personal life, then you'd know that I laugh... A LOT! It is something that I got my grandmother and never grew out of, thankfully. I also noticed that many of my heroes have an awesome sense of humour, including the Dalai Lama.

I found this article at beliefnet and I thought I'd share with all my friends. Please take a few minutes to digest it, and then to laugh out loud with me.

9 Ways Humour Can Heal

9 Ways Humor Can Heal yellow Smiling faces

9 Ways Humor Can Heal

When life has you feeling weighed down, laugh a little and feel your heart lighten.

document.write(curPage.Body);By Therese J. Borchard

Of all my tools to combat stress-especially the stress of dealing with my illness or someone else's--humor is by far the most fun. And just like mastering the craft of writing, I'm finding that the longer I practice laughing at life (especially at its frustrations) the better I become at it, and the more situations and conversations and complications I can place into that category named "silly."

G. K. Chesterton once wrote: "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." And Proverbs 17:22 says that "a happy heart is good medicine." I'd add that human beings and their caretakers can heal and find joy again if they learn how to laugh. Here are just a few ways a dose of humor might transform something ugly and stressful to slightly entertaining, and, well, a tad less catastrophic.

continued here...

Do enjoy. Sherri

What most helps your personal growth?

Actually, interfacing with other people and learning more and more about humanity, and consequently my potential as a human being... both the light and the dark.

Hovering in the background always, however, is the knowledge that I have the choice of which characteristics I will assume... always...

People may trigger unpleasant reactions in me sometimes, but as long as I don't take things personal, I grow simply from pushing past those responses that might be unwise in the longer term and identify characteristics that I don't personally want to have for myself.

By the same token, taking a pause to reflect on the beauty in persons also gives me a chance to emulate such qualities in these persons.

Wishing you all my deepest love.

I AM GOING TO DOMINICA ON THURSDAY FOR FOUR DAYS!!

You bet I am excited about it! It is only my favourite country in the world with its absolutely natural features still in place. They say the island looks the same as it did when Columbus invaded, er, I mean, discovered it!

I'm going for hiking and to dance my ahhh... cares off at the Creole Music Festival with friends.

If all goes well, I'm going to do some snorkelling and whale watching as well.

Now THAT is something to get excited about!

Here's a taste of the flora I'm sure to see growing wild!

My new home... no I don't have it yet lol

Posted on Oct 28th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
I'm thinking about my next place where I will live.

It must be airy and free flowing, with furniture minimal. I'm sick of bulky stuff that I hurt myself lifting and moving around just to clean. I'm so getting the zen way of life...!

It's got to allow for some dogs; that's important. I have been without Nike for 3 years. I think that was long enough... ya know?

I want to be surrounded by beauty [again] but this time with ease and luxury attached to it... enjoy the physical sensations the whole way this time. Yehhh

I'm putting my intentions out there and I know I'll get the best, most ideal space for my development, as I have in the past.

I'm messing around with images in my mind and when I get them together, I'm gonna add them here.

In the meantime, please join in my positive intention for this wonderful space to call my new home. I've got lots of great outputs just waiting to come out of me, from living in comfort in that place ;)

Somewhere between this:

and this:

No kidding...

Both images from Dominica... who knows what I'll see there this week when I visit...!

Thanks, friends. lol

Blessings to you all!! Most definitely.

What have you overvalued in life?

Posted on Oct 29th, 2008 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 29, 2008:

My good friend solitare summarised it so well for me!

But at least for her I shall elaborate a bit...

I have overvalued other people's opinions... and in the process undervalued mine. I have not credited myself with the intellect and ability to make the best choices for my life, simply because I believed that others were so capable themselves...

I am learning in a heart-heavy way now, that this was posturing in most cases. How disappointing!

As I digest that bitter pill, I gather more faith in myself, in the stockpile of intelligence gained through experience and certainly from my belief in nature's intelligence, accessible at all times to me when I choose to immerse in it.

The refurbishment of my value system continues in great earnest!

Blessings! Love to all.
