Please help me! I need an antonym for 'Panic'

Hello friends
I just had the most interesting time trying to find a word which serves as a counter or parallel to a way of life based on fearing things. I usually come to a descriptor for that standard approach today, as 'panic'.
I've always ultimately realised that things work out and to not stay calm in the moment is not the best use of my energy. I definitely serve my world better by hanging in there and not getting swept too far with the tide of things. It helps a lot of people too, I find... So I practise it quite a bit in my work and would like to make it a standard for me.
To set me in the right mindframe as I choose how I am going to approach life and interact with other people consciously, and being a highly literate and literal thinker, [I used to say overly, but I'm built like this; what can I say?] I wanted to choose the right word to focus intention on as I continue on my calming path.
Guess what!
I couldn't find a thesaurus reference as an antonym to 'panic'. There are literally no words approved by thesaurus.com, either in the noun or the verb form which speak to the act of reacting or responding calmly to incoming or unexpected information and/or bringing calm to others when transmitting new, real but not necessarily 'sweet' information! [I will be happy to elaborate if this doesn't make sense!]
So I'm asking for your help; to put a name to what I have been attempting to do for some time, not fully consciously, as I make it conscious and make myself more aware of my '.....' efforts. [That's where the word would come in!]
I think about all the [just as highly] literate, hugely intelligent and wise persons here on Gaia and I see such possibilities for great outputs to my word search. [Yes, I'm kissing up lol]
Please, there are no limits. Let's get creative. And as you think of words, please approve or disapprove what has been proposed before. Also, don't hesitate to tell me what your process was for coming up with something. I'm always curious with the mind!
Thanks! It would be a big help for me...
My first ugly and cluttered attempt at a word for this is: enharmonise...
Can't wait to receive your insights. Thanks a lot!
Sherri

Help

Orderly, organised, peaceful, confident, disciplined, controlled
(staying) focussed….????
Ummmmm, let's see. What about 'equanimous' (now let's see you convert such a word into a verb!), or the simpler 'calm'. Or perhaps 'self-collectedness' so to make it into a verb you can write 'self-collect' - ha, ha, ha! Thanks for such a fun challenge, Sherri! Hope this helps find you word or even just cheer you up! Hugs!
This might take some thought to really find the exact antonym. But relaxed was the word that popped into consciousness right now. Or relax. Maybe the opposite word contains so many positive characteristics that we can't limit it to only one word? :)
“…a word which serves as a counter or parallel to a way of life based on fearing things.”
How about accept or acceptance?
Other suggestions: verbs – allay, compose, assuage.
nouns – composure, assurance, control, self-possession.
love
This is going great. I like what I'm seeing… Please don't stop now! Thanks. S
Hello, fellow bibliophiles! I love word games =)
Antonyms for panic, as a noun: peace, tranquility, serenity, patience, composure (I even found “untroubledness” in the Thesaurus, but it's pretty ungainly, don't you think? - I didn't even know it existed! =|
Antonyms for panicked (adj.) all of the above as adjectives, plus grounded, amicable, warmhearted, benevolent, affable
As for verbs, I came up with nada. Perhaps that is because this idea is more about a state of being than “actions” (as in, action verbs)- but I agree, your actions should reflect this state of being, and perhaps we should have verbs that convey this goodwill.
y'know….Sagittaria…for a 17 year old woman….i definitely LIKe your way of thinkin' there!
Faith…
Sherri, I have found that when I put my Faith in a higher source , I use the word God someone else may use a different name and that is ok because I realize I don't need to Panic, I have Faith that He is in control, and then my Panic turns into hope and hope brings Peace then Peace brings joy ….Joy to my soul.
The angels have said ” the purpose of every soul is to live in joy…”
Love and Blessings
Well a dictioary opposite might be composure.
Though I do think if truly emitting love panic terror, hate etc has no home and can not enter
Freedom, Joy, Inspiration and Love.
Serene Sherrie …..showing,shining,sincerity in her serenity…..
You guys are so wonderful. As a verb I am thinking now of 'encalm'; it sounds legitimate, yeh?
I'm still accepting inspiration. You guys are surely making this day lovely!
What great fun! Sherrilene
Pronoia - is the suspicion the Universe is a conspiracy
on your behalf. the sneaking suspicion others are conspiring to help you
(and you them!)
Prana is Sanskrit for life force so I will coin the word “pranic” as an adjective meaning 'full of life force'.
Pranayama is a combination of the Sanskrit words 'prana' and 'yama' meaning 'control or mastering'. Though there is nothing like this variation of this word, I will coin the term “pranayamic” meaning one who mastered the life force within their being and body.
I will also invent the word “planic” as one who has confidence and composure because they have planned beforehand as opppose to one who 'panics' because they did not plan.
Mannnn…. Samme you so brilliant! I've got some enhancements on that thesaurus to do! Wow!! I'm feeling the planic man lol
Hi, to me the closest opposites to “panic” are “accepting” and “relax”. Also, in trying to think of a word to describe it I could only conjure up the feeling of it- so even if you can't think of a word the actual feeling may be just as powerful. = )
For me peace as a noun and hope as noun and verb :-).
loving blessings -
Sylvia
Ease.
It just came to me. And it is a verb mostly and a noun sometimes. I don't think we use it enough. it has room to grow. How would you use ease in the context you are wishing to use a panic antonym?
An antonym for panic could be Tranquill. Its a great way of saying peaceful and calm
one of the coolest things about this is that now when people google Panic antonyms, this blog comes up within the first few hits! :)
lol Wow! Cool!
I guess if I would like to make the top of any global list I'd like it to be for my efforts at active peace! Now that I think on it, my company interface is set up with that in mind also… That's nice.
It's also nice that there's such a rich range of words to choose from. I'll petition to thesaurus.com to update their databases ;)
I'm also feeling quite encouraged having tried all of the suggestions which are coming through as I read them because I did feel fantastic every time I did. I hope everyone else here did too [that being the exercise in fact!]
Great to hear from all of you. Best, Sherri
peaceful, bliss
Panic vs. Surprise. Both are the same intense emotional response, yet they take you in different directions.
Peace Angel,

Panic - consternation, terror, fear, fright, affright, alarm confusion.
Antidotal antonym: CALMNESS
The Nuttall Dictionary of English Synonyms & Antonyms - Warne's Reference Series.
May I guide you to an excellent source book, “Healing Fear: New Approaches to Overcoming Anxiety” by Edmund Bourne, Ph.D. (New Harbinger Publications, Inc. 1998)
Hi! First checkin this evening. Meenakshi thank you! I'll do the necessary follow up. That's fantastic!
Mike, there is something about choosing suprise since it has such great connotations to it. So new things coming into our space are seen as having excitement and joy associated with it. I like this.
I'll take the time to look into that book reference. This is awesome.
Thanks, everyone for coming over. We're doing great!
Love, Sherri
Zenitude- I made it up,it's a combination of Zen & attitude
Oooh, I like it Mike. I can work with that right away. Thank YOU so much! S
I love having come across this blog :-)
Samme's words are my favorites…. I've used pranic and pranayamic before but planic is a fun new one!
Calm.
Nishta and Ian, yes. I love the idea of new vocabulary emerging. Ian I am still likely to make calm into an action word like I said above someplace. It is empowering in that way… Encouraging new affirming words and thoughts etc…
And keeping my Zenitude right lol
Take care all. Sherrilene
I added my comments to the Collective Wisdom thread here: http://pods.gaia.com/collective_wisdom/discussions/view/367506.

Thanks for the referral Meenakshi. Best regards to you. Sherrilene
I was unable to think of or find a verb for calm and do not feel that there is one.
Good luck - if that is what is needed!!
Also Love Samme's post ;)
Ooo! I can’t find any verbs by themselves, but what about some interesting “helping” verbs:
there are cliches like “remian calm” and “keep cool”
But what about “exude calmness?”
“radiate tranquility”
“manifest peace”
Hey Sagi. I'll have them all especially 'manifest peace'. That's great!
