What has your recent relationship to money been like?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 13, 2009:
I've felt guilt about having any money while other people are cringing without having enough. But faith is teaching me that it is as it should be and further, that I've 'earned' my inflow of currency through meaningful, useful work.
I have definitely decided not to hoard it! Each time I have decided to spend some on something dear to my heart, another inflow came in ...
Come to think on it... it's always been that way!
The grim state of life is: although I am not attached to money in itself, I recognise that for some time to come, certain things will continue to be paid for with cash.
As long as I am certain I am creating value in my work and life, I believe I will have a healthy relationship with money.

wise answer – although not sure about earned as maybe this is just your lot in life per say – maybe it is a choice before we come here – just a thought ya know.
“I’d like to live as a poor man with lots of money.” ~ Pablo Picasso
Sherrilyne,
Truly honest answer. My relationship with money is that it can bring pain as well as pleasure. I don’t value money as a luxury, I view it as a necessity to maintain “my” quality of life. Which is if I have it for the day, than that is all that I need to get by. If I don’t have it, I make do with what I got. So many kids these days have things handed to them on a silver platter, i.e. cars, jet skiis, trips, etc. I grew up living within our means and if we can spend that extra dollar, it was a reward for hard work.In today’s society, everyone makes it a point that without the almighty dollar, we can’t survive. Hogwash. Look back at our ancestors and see how they did it. It was tough, but they made it through with the simple things in life.
Hi friends. Phoenix, it’s useful that you brought that up. I actually believe our ‘lot’ in life is our choice more than simply imposed by the Universe. I work consciously hard and thoroughly. Perhaps the will to work is divinely placed though, I’ve never been what you call ‘lazy’ or a short cutter. But what we receive comes through action in my opinion, thus earned in that sense.
Gina I, like you, subscribe to going with the flow. Like I said I don’t hoard stuff and equally I don’t overdo on unnecessary things. I also give away often if I have surplus and am called on in a serious way. But as it relates to my needs, as long as the basics are met, I can live without lots of money for reasonably long periods. That is actually when I get more creative! And that has great value in my world especially.
Thank you for coming by!
Peace, Sherrilene
Sherri I know your work is your joy and therefore the flow keeps comin…: )
Its beautiful to know that an awareness of the gifts of abundance and work in ’ service to others ’ spreading inspiration, love, joy and purpose is what we picked or signed up for to do before we landed here..: )
I give thanks for the abundance provided for all and may you always be blessed with a wealth of beautiful, peaceful flow…
Love and blessings to you…
Ange..
Yes it is; and I think it is still an unfortunate myth for many that your work is some kind of penance or suffering until retirement when you hope to be happy eventually. [Visit my suffering blog here…]
But possibly more significant is how in an abstract but very real way, simply being useful, helpful to the universe is what is making my consultancy viable. Of course with the amount of cleaning up work to be done, it isn’t an easy job in the least, but the whole question of abundant flow and currency etc. has been eliminated. Also my sense of freedom has magnified significantly. No guilt trips about ‘meaning’…
I also link to my blog on Quality vs. Quantity as a bit of an extension on this thought and continue to emphasise living excellently first as the path to a great Quality of Life!
I appreciate your words, dear friend Ange!
And wish the same to you too.
Love, Sherri
