The Voice of the Youth of Today; i.e. Me

Amy MacDonald - Youth Of Today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFRABHoyVe0

Maybe if you were some spearheaded guy
I would listen to what you have to say
But you're just some incapable figure
Thinking you're bigger than me, but you're not
Yet you don't know a thing about the youth of today
Stating your opinion making it ring in my head all day

And you say,
"My children weren't the same"
"My children's children they're the ones to blame"
And you say,
"In my day we were better behaved"
But it's not your day no more...

And we are the youth of today
Change our hair in every way
And we are the youth of today
We'll say what we wanna say
And we are the youth of today
Don't care what you have to say at all

And maybe if you had a true point of view
I would listen to you
But it's just your one sided feelings
They keep getting in my way
And you don't know a single thing about the youth of today
Stating your opinion making it ring in my head all day

And you say,
"My children weren't the same"
"My children's children they're the ones to blame"
And you say,
"In my day we were better behaved"
But it's not your day no more...

And we are the youth of today
Change our hair in every way
And we are the youth of today
We'll say what we wanna say
And we are the youth of today
Don't care what you have to say at all

And you say,
"My children weren't the same"
"My children's children they're the ones to blame"
And you say,
"In my day we were better behaved"
But it's not your day no more...

And we are the youth of today
Change our hair in every way
And we are the youth of today
We'll say what we wanna say
And we are the youth of today
Don't care what you have to say at all

What was the last risk you took?

Posted on May 7th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 06, 2009:

Moving in with someone who I only knew in a very limited professional capacity.

I learned a lot.

I'm still reeling from this experience but I sense I've grown up quite a bit from it. At this point I cannot identify any losses [of significance; since I am not a materialistic person anyhow], but I sense the gains will be substantial in the long run.

I am your proverbial risk-taker. :)

Have some faith.

And love.

Where do you go for help?

Usually within. I'm fairly self dependent and don't like the habit of requesting things that I could possibly do for myself.

On the occasions where I feel I don't have the knowledge to take an action, I have a few friends I can go to who will help me.

The best information I get, however, comes through meditation, which takes the form of journalling normally. It not only tells me what but when and who and how. It just takes patience and quiet to get the help I need.

Peace and love to all people.

News from British Columbia, and it is good!

Posted on May 7th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
[Cross-posted from http://www.hq-2.com May 1, 2009 Newsletter]

I have just returned from a much anticipated visit to North America to introduce hq2’s Quality of Life principles to that location. Apart from the International Association of Facilitators North America Conference in Vancouver, there was also a retreat entitled ‘Employ your Natural Talents’, which took place on Mayne Island, co-facilitated by Ms.Terrill Welch, Executive Leadership Coach [http://www.awomanbehindwomen.ca]. The Mayne Island retreat was a true ‘back to nature’ experience which refreshed not only me but the participants as well.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 09, 2009:

In the outdoors; the further away from concrete buildings, the better... where my appearance is not of interest and I actually forget what I look like since my energies and focus are directed to climbing dexterously over the next hill; skirting a rock or tree stump; skipping a puddle with enthusiasm... doing my best not to miss the next excellent opportunity of nature to further expand my vision of life and confirm the abundance that is truly reality... I love to find my nature within nature.

God bless us. Sherri

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY...MAMA AFRICA by Louise Uwacu

Posted on May 10th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is a reproduction from a posting from my colleague Louise Uwacu, today for Mother's Day

Mother Africa...how are you doing...?

How have you been lately...? Last time you spoke to me, you prayed for your children. So they may know what is real and tell the illusions apart. So they may always remember their way back home...even those who left in chains, or those who took that plane, or those who swam voluntarily in the Mediterranean as their boats still sunk from overload.

I remember you prayed for those who left a long time ago and went west, east, north...and further away from you that they ended up changing colors and being used to go back and kill their dark skin brothers and sisters...I remember you asking for forgiveness for them. I remember you asking for their consciousness to be raised so that despite their lack of melanin...they might reconnect with their higher spiritual versions and reject the ignorance behind all that allow you to die day after day...just because they now call you 3rd world...the poorest part of the world.

Mother Africa, I know you have done your best to survive. I know you have given and given even what you did not have on surface. So they had to violate you and go deep inside you to find all their riches, all that makes them “civilized” and “advanced”. I know that in the process...they have soiled your beautiful valleys, mountains and planes with blood...I know that some of your parks have now become deserts...I know your source of waters can not feed those you still struggle to raise...I know you are dying mama Africa...and I hear your prayers...

I hear the cries, I have felt the pain...I am one of those they call “refugees”...Apparently our backyards have natural resources...and they want them...so they have used our brothers to kill their brothers and rape their sisters...in the process mama Africa...the so called “united nations” has defined me as a refugee...Mother Africa, I know why they ignore the Sudan, I know why no one saves the Congo. I know why they starve Zimbabwe. I know why they imprisoned Mandela...I understand why even Ghandi would become a freedom fighter after stepping on your grounds and witnessing your pains.

But remember Mother Africa how far you have come, how strong you have stood, no matter how low you have fallen...remember that the odds of your survival are in the minus and in the miracles...and know you are the Queen that has always had even the sun set nights and see days in your skies...Remember you are the land that gave birth to Humanity. Just because your children have forgotten where they come from...does not mean you have ceased to be the cradle of Civilization.

Mother Africa, how are you doing? where are your children? How are they doing?

Mother Africa, forgive us for our ignorance when we trash you, when we fight each other, when we rob you, when we sell you, when we run from you...when we fail you generation after another...Forgive us mama...of all the mothers, you have truly been the most generous and we have certainly been the most ingrates.

Mother Africa, on this mother’s day...what gift would you want? I want to work to make you proud. I run to find my way back to you. To make sure that you are still the Queen, mother of all Pharaohs, nurturer of all achievements...even those that they have yet to discover...you have already written in stone.

Mother Africa, bless those who keep you in their hearts...know that those who cant get you off their minds will never allow you to fade in darkness, for there would be no light without your brilliance. There would be no dreaming without your POSitivision* through times...far worse than any recession, and out of holes far deeper than all depressions...

Mother Africa....do you even have a mother’s day...or do our mothers endure and support us without appreciation just like we have treated you....?

Mother Africa, I want to be your favorite....the kind of child who knows we owe it all to our mothers...So I will always Love You...I will always check on you...and I will do my best to make sure they bow when you stand up....for you are the One we all owe Life.

Happy Mother’s day...mama...

Running from or to...?

Posted on May 11th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 11, 2009:

I sometimes feel like I am running away from the madness of this life, when I 'hit the streets' and go hiking or immerse myself in the bliss of spending time with my very uncomplicated animals, or similarly reflect on the memories of my loving, uninhibited life with my grandmother...

As time has gone on, I have accepted, bit by bit, that it isn't 'escape' I am doing; at least not of the form of evading responsibilities and the like. It is just my beautiful spirit which does not desire to be bogged down anymore in that moment, in inconsequential things and just wants to be free... yes, from the madness!

Indeed as time passes some more, I have been accepting as well, that my state of desiring escape is perfectly natural and normal... since I am perfectly formed, and everything I experience is good enough and right and no mistake whatsoever. It's just my experience and it's fine. So no more self 'beat-up' for desiring something different than what apparently people are pursuing...

I think it helps now that I am finding so many people just like me, who aren't satisfied with this kind of thing...like my beautiful friend Anges...

Here's her blog for today! http://ladiesoflight.gaia.com/blog/2009/5/in_what_areas_of_your_life_do_you_feel_youre_running

Great days to all!

Who do you want to be when you grow up?

Posted on May 13th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 13, 2009:

I love the question, Siona! ;)

The description I would use is 'Together Me'...

Since I am so outward, in that I instinctively think in service terms, I rarely hold in my awareness all of the little things that make me, me and that serve me greatly. I feel scattered quite often.

Without attempting to live 'perfect', I would like to be 'in touch' with all of the different parts consistently and move through life 'with me'. [Don't know if this makes sense lol]

This in no way detracts from my potential power to serve. Indeed, something tells me that it makes it much simpler to organise my life and enjoy the service which I give better [and more].

I do enjoy service quite a bit; this could potentially lift it to an even higher level.

Achieving this togtherness would be what I aspire to in mature life.

Peace, Sherrilene

Where would you like to go deeper in your life?

Posted on May 15th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 15, 2009:

Well, just about everywhere actually.

The degree of superficiality that still pervades my interactions with people is quite distressing; it's like if a real discussion will scare some people to death!

Stepping around on egg shells has been a very exhausting habit I began developing from working in corporate especially... possibly a key reason that I left after feeling stressed out and unheard by my bosses!

There's still so much effort that's put into discussions about small, inconsequential things, that again I wonder who seriously would want to see change happen... or who just enjoys discussing, i.e. hearing their voice or seeing their own writing on a page!

My small global circle of colleagues who are willing to dig deep [in themselves] and put their energy into real work remains my inspiration to keep going, despite the very great numbers of politicians, champions of industry, diplomats and the like, who are frankly only very good at consuming the well needed resources for change and at digging us even deeper into our mess, maintaining clear benefit for them...

But still we press on in prayer for common sense to take hold...

To depth!

What are your legacies?

Posted on May 16th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 16, 2009:

I have always felt from a young woman, that your legacies, as in what you will be remembered for, are the type of citizens you leave behind you in the form of the children you bring into the world and raise up to adult stage.

As I moved deeper into the business and academic world trying to find a place, I gradually shed my ideas about children and spent a lot of time 'achieving' goals in the 'very best' ways... I was a good girl :)

As time has went on and I got frustrated with the returns from the System, which were basically more work without an end in sight and non-commensurate appreciation, I moved then to asking this very question to myself and came up with the answer, basically, that I'd be a singular example for use of my gifts to contribute to greater good. This was how my company, hq2 or the Human Quality Headquarters got started.

Today I'd have to say that hq2 is my key legacy, but it doesn't only speak to 'the business'; not in traditional terms. I want hq2 to be a reflection of what is good about enterprise; about creativity and innovation and networking and good relationships with people and the public and creation of goodwill [ = value]. Thus my intertwinings with so many people along the way also create the full and favourable legacy of hq2.

Since my gifts include a natural affinity to people, [in fact, to living creatures!], it  happens that through actualising this, the quantity of those [legacy droplet] relationships is substantial! Four years on and I can safely say that the value and goodwill of my business are solid and something I can be peaceful with.

So although I have not followed the path I had visualised in my youth, I think I have still fulfilled the broad legacy I'd predicted, through my company, by helping to shape peaceful and useful citizens for our world in general.

I still encourage every person to be aware of their potential to help the next wave of human existence by taking the next generation on as their responsibility and by sharing your knowledge and wisdom with them, for Our Greater Good.

I certainly will continue to do the same.

Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi with lyrics

Posted on May 17th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
I love this guy!

And the song had particular meaning tonight.

Bon Jovi Keep The Faith

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USlSBotFzik
Mother mother tell your children
That their time has just begun
I have suffered for my anger
There are wars that cant be won

Father father please believe me
I am laying down my guns
I am broken like an arrow
Forgive me
Forgive your wayward son

Everybody needs somebody to love
(mother, mother)
Everybody needs somebody to hate
(please believe me)
Everybodys bitching
cause they cant get enough
And its hard to hold on
When theres no one to lean on

Faith: you know youre gonna live thru the rain
Lord you got to keep the faith
Faith: dont let your love turn to hate
Right now we got to
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Lord we got to keep the faith

Tell me baby when I hurt you
Do you keep it all inside
Do you tell me als forgiven
And just hide behind your pride

Everybody needs somebody to love
(mother, father)
Everybody needs somebody to hate
(please dont leave me)
Everybodys bleeding
cause the times are tough
Well its hard to be strong
When theres no one to dream on

Faith: you know youre gonna live thru the rain
Lord you got to keep the faith
Now you know is not too late
Oh you got to keep the faith
Faith: dont let your love turn to hate
Right now we got to
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Lord we got to keep the faith

Walking in the footsteps
Of societys lies
I dont like what I see no more
Sometimes I wish that I was blind
Sometimes I wait forever

To stand out in the rain
So no one sees me cryin
Trying to wash away the pain
Mother father

Theres things Ive done I cant erase
Every night we fall from grace

Its hard with the world in yours face
Trying to hold on, trying to hold on

Faith: you know youre gonna live thru the rain
Lord you got to keep the faith
Faith: dont let your love turn to hate
Right now we got to keep the faith
Faith: now its not too late
Try to hold on, trying to hold on
Keep the faith

What choice would you like to make?

Posted on May 19th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 19, 2009:

To not feed my addiction to the dramas of the 'real world', knowing that it is not one bit authentic and thus a waste of energy and my time.

I quite always end up frustrated and disappointed and feeling silly that I did anyway, which is not exactly a great Quality of Life choice, is it?

In relative comparison, my dipping into areas of growth or development is very enjoyable and lots of fun as well, since there's so much energy being created there, which in turn energises and inspires me... and I do like having energy at the end of my day!

This choice would mean concentrating on things like entrepreneurship, especially social enterprise, creative activities, children and education. In fact there is no shortage of wonderful developmental areas I am able to immerse in.

Seems like not much of a choice, huh...?

Peace,

Love, S

P.S. For any entrepreneurial enthusiasts, please consider joining the WES [World Entrepreneurial Summit] Society online and help carry forward the next wave of 'head and heart' enterprise development. The link is http://www.wessociety.com

Joyful existence with my animals

Posted on May 20th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
It's time for that update to the change in my home life with the acquisition of yes, another dog!

I decided my Jonny should have a companion, especially since I might not be around all the time with travel, etc. I've always believed in teaching lessons in sharing as well [for humans too, of course!] So I brought home another pup from the Ark [see first blog on the Ark here: http://sherrilene.gaia.com/blog/2009/3/wonderful_visit_to_the_ark_animal_sanctuary ], a girl named Tinkerbell.

Tinkerbell

She had been originally offered to me, in fact. But Jonny had endeared himself to me so I took him home first; absolutely with no regrets. These two pups have been showing me things about life that I couldn't have gained very easily just by living with fellow humans!

For one, they are both victims of cruelty of one sort or the next; that if it was not directly perpetuated by humans, was certainly facilitated through neglect of full responsibility for their animals. The lessons I have been learning are about growth. Although at first fearful about humans and in Jonny's case vehicles [he was run over, I think as a young pup], both of these animals have been showing me what adaptation and acceptance are about.

In quick time they assessed their 'human' and have concluded they can trust me. And now they love me unhesitatingly. I don't detect any further fear of humans in them, and in fact Tinkerbell in particular is quite the charmer and loves to flirt with all sorts. Jonny is remaining the territory guard and sticks quite close to me for affection. He seems quite a wise and thinking soul [but that might be just me projecting lol]

The two are very different in personality: he laid-back and obedient; she a really excited, youthful spirit. [She is a bit younger than Jon-boy to be fair... that's his nickname, yes :) ] And they play-fight quite a bit... a bit rough. This used to concern me since I have an aversion to fights, but I observe it is just a different way that they 'live'. There's never residual hard feelings and in fact I often 'catch' them kissing each other when no-one's looking. :) She gives as good as she gets in these fights and is not at all intimidated by the fact that our Jonny is bigger, just a bit. She is really confident in her self and her ability to 'handle' situations. Such an observation...

Tinky [that's the other nickname I'm trying with... she hasn't quite grown into it yet] is aggressive with food; I assume it's her background, while Jonny gently sits and waits until I place his food there for him. Jonny, you'd say, has the more abundant personality. Sounds like any humans to you? lol

The two are not really 'matches made in heaven' but I see that they are learning to live comfortably with each other and with their mistress. There are moments of possessiveness [of me], on both parts. But I do my best to divide time with them in the ways that they like: Jonny likes to feel like he's done a great job chasing those pesky humans off the outskirts of the premises, most especially the postman with that noisy motorcycle! Tinky more would like to sit at my feet and, well, just be there. Of course this is just her little non-abundant spirit concluding it will give her first 'dibs' on food distribution.

She may grow out of it; she might not. I know some people never do, so it is possible she'll stay that way forever. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I sense her intentions are good for the most part and she does understand what limits are, so we're ok. :)

Together they do show me what letting go looks like: I swear they fall asleep within seconds of doing their duties [actually, just like me!]. Yet they remain alert to perform when they detect the need. I think fulfilling our purpose probably looks like that in a very natural setting without pretense.

On the trot together

Both my pups are low maintenance, thank goodness, but they are there for me as I need them. They sure do assist me in having peace of mind when I lie down at night. I am really lucky to have them!

I invite everyone to join me in signing the Animal Cruelty Petition for Barbados at this link: http://www.petitiononline.com/bbpcaa/petition.html and consider taking an active look at www.peta.org to see how you can contribute in at least a small way, to prevention and reduction of animal cruelty. Indeed I also hope that everyone will consider taking in an animal as well and enhancing your Quality of Life with the balance they have the power to bring with them. They are definitely still very much in tune with their Nature...!

Thank you for sharing my happy time with me.

Sincerely,

Sherrilene

Can abundant thinking be taught? What do you think?

Posted on May 20th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
I have been thinking about this quite a bit for a few days... A big part of the fear based mindset of those among us that are living in and operating in the capitalist system as we know it, is the sense that we need to gather things at the risk of running out. It has justified a great degree of short-term thinking, hoarding and divisions among people.

I am interested to know:
  1. If you consider yourself an abundant thinker, confident that there is 'enough' to share around and with consideration and effort, we can in fact effect the rebalancing and proper distribution of wealth around the world
  2. If you do, how did you come to that position? Experiences? Were you always of this mindset?
  3. If you think that those persons who hold the alternate positions [scarcity mindsets] can be retrained, and why/why do you not think so?
If this is too complicated no problem, just answer as you see fit.

Thanks for your insights.

Blessings to you,

Sherrilene

Moments of Gratitude & Cleansing...

Posted on May 23rd, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 23, 2009:

'Clock time' is actually a distraction for me so I rarely register hours unless I have an appointment with someone. Thank goodness for alarms and the like...

I feel the greatest highs on any day when I take my break for meditation on gratitude; when I think about all I'm blessed with and how fortunate I am to have a fully functional body, a working brain which keeps me resilient and hopeful that so much that is being neglected by our world's leaders is going to change... because said leaders are proving themselves to be useless to the emerging populations...

I have committed to taking time out for meditation anytime that I feel in any way rushed or conflicted, so that I may stay in touch with the true reality of abundance, and keep the cult of negativity from depositing nonsense in my system.

And if it takes 15 minutes or 1.5 hours or 1.5 days, so be it.

Namasté

Soc-trepreneur - hq2 four years on

Posted on May 24th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
[Please note this will be issued via the mailing list as well. Apologies for duplication in advance]

At the end of this month I will be really happy to say that my company the Human Quality Headquarters has officially had the 4 year mark.

I am reminded that I had actually started my first company exactly one year before that, which was a partnership that didn't fit. And so being 'officially' in business would have begun 5 years ago.

I am further reminded about when I got frustrated with working in traditional conservative business and chucked it to 'follow my own path', which takes me back to end-September 2002. So being 'on my own' is even longer; in fact, 6.5 years is the approximate reckoning at this time.

"Shock!!" as I look now at these dates and years. I have no other description for my emotion as I look! I can't believe I have made it this long with nothing else but a calling and periodic visions and what I call 'downloads' from Above to help make my way through.

There was some moral support although not much; there was some financial support although not much at all! There was much education on store for me of the kinds I never expected or even dreamed of. But as I think of things I must admit that I did desire learning and opportunities to grow, which is why I'd got quite frustrated in 'The System', at least in one significant part.

And what have I learned over this time?

1. That I can handle it: this 'self-employment' thing. It's doable, if you really want something different for your life than steady pay and 'perks' :) It's interesting how I never once felt concern about steady pay but I did get annoyed when I had to be delayed in paying bills for some reason external to me or my performance. But that, in fact, is life. I can accept that also.

2. That there is an ABUNDANCE of resources available to us if we really want to get out there and follow our dreams. Speaking freely about this will help and not being scared of 'someone stealing your ideas...' etc. The involvement of so many people that are excited about seeing you grow and develop, especially as a young woman from a 'developing' country, has without a doubt taken my vision to places I didn't think were possible in this relatively short period of time. I should make the point that this does not mean 'patronage' or 'patronising' which to my mind is the counter to growth completely!

3. That having a focus on something bigger than short-term profit lends to a highly satisfying venture which will carry you along over the humps and grumps of social and economic attempted co-existence.

Too many other lessons to sum up in this small space. I just know that a love and respect for the total me is what led me and what has kept me stepping, and I wouldn't change a single decision I have made, even the ones that led to burns! It has ALL been worth this feeling I have now of making it through.

What I do next is quite open. I still see societal 'refreshment' as important and the need for [re]education as critical and I'll continue to play my part to this end. I believe the social entrepreneur is the missing link between the state fulfilling its responsibility to the people and the alleviation of so many of the social illnesses that we have lived with for the longest time and I will keep encouraging a wholesome embracing of local professionals to bridge this gap.

And I will keep placing [my] Quality of Life paramount, just because I honour this life and I don't want to waste it! If work finds its way peacefully into this space then I will definitely merge with it and keep giving the best possible contribution that I or hq2 can make :)

So, to another, at present, innumerable set of years of self-determination with contribution, which I hope will be legacy of the Human Quality Headquarters and me ultimately.

I wish you all countless years of the same.

With sincere regards,

8 Toxic personalities to avoid

Posted on May 27th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene

Just found this great article on Yahoo!
Although we like to think that the people in our lives are well-adjusted, happy, healthy minded individuals, we sometimes realize that it just isn't so. Personally, I've had moments where I'll be skipping through my day, happy as can be, thinking life is grand and BAM, I'll be blindsided by someone who manages to knock the happy wind out of my sails. Sometimes it is easy to write it off and other times, not so much.

Maybe you are a positive person, but when you are around a certain individual, you feel negative. Or, maybe you have an idealistic view of the world and when you are with certain people, you are made to feel silly, unrealistic or delusional. Or, maybe you pride yourself in being completely independent and in control of your life, but when you are around a certain family member, you regress into a state of childhood.

Some of these situations, and yes, these people, can have a tremendously negative impact on our lives. And, although we are all human and have our 'issues,' some 'issues' are quite frankly, toxic. They are toxic to our happiness. They are toxic to our mental outlook. They are toxic to our self-esteem. And they are toxic to our lives. They can suck the life out of us and even shorten our lifespan.

Here are the worst of the toxic personalities out there and how to spot them:

1. Manipulative Mary: These individuals are experts at manipulation tactics. Is a matter of fact, you may not even realize you have been manipulated until it is too late. These individuals figure out what your 'buttons' are, and push them to get what they want.

* Why they are toxic: These people have a way of eating away at your belief system and self-esteem. They find ways to make you do things that you don't necessarily want to do and before you know it, you lose your sense of identity, your personal priorities and your ability to see the reality of the situation. The world all of a sudden becomes centered around their needs and their priorities.

2. Narcissistic Nancy: These people have an extreme sense of self-importance and believe that the world revolves around them. They are often not as sly as the Manipulative Marys of the world, but instead, tend to be a bit overt about getting their needs met. You often want to say to them "It isn't always about you."

* Why they are toxic: They are solely focused on their needs, leaving your needs in the dust. You are left disappointed and unfulfilled. Further, they zap your energy by getting you to focus so much on them, that you have nothing left for yourself.

3. Debbie Downers: These people can't appreciate the positive in life. If you tell them that it is a beautiful day, they will tell you about the impending dreary forecast. If you tell them you aced a mid-term, they'll tell you about how difficult the final is going to be.

* Why they are toxic: They take the joy out of everything. Your rosy outlook on life continues to get squashed with negativity. Before you know it, their negativity consumes you and you start looking at things with gray colored glasses yourself.

4. Judgmental Jims: When you see things as cute and quirky, they see things as strange and unattractive. If you find people's unique perspectives refreshing, they find them 'wrong'. If you like someone's eclectic taste, they find it 'disturbing' or 'bad'.

* Why they are toxic: Judgmental people are much like Debbie Downers. In a world where freedom rings, judgment is sooo over. If the world was a homogeneous place, life would be pretty boring. Spending a lot of time with these types can inadvertently convert you into a judgmental person as well.

5. Dream Killing Keiths: Every time you have an idea, these people tell you why you can't do it. As you achieve, they try to pull you down. As you dream, they are the first to tell you it is impossible.

* Why they are toxic: These people are stuck in what is instead of what could be. Further, these individuals eat away at your self-esteem and your belief in yourself. Progress and change can only occur from doing new things and innovating, dreaming the impossible and reaching for the stars.

6. Insincere Illissas: You never quite feel that these people are being sincere. You tell a funny story, they give you a polite laugh. You feel depressed and sad and they give you a 'there, there' type response. You tell them you are excited about something and you get a very ho-hum response.

* Why they are toxic: People who aren't sincere or genuine build relationships on superficial criteria. This breeds shallow, meaningless relationships. When you are really in need of a friend, they won't be there. When you really need constructive criticism, they would rather tell you that you are great the way you are. When you need support, they would rather see you fail or make a fool of yourself.

7. Disrespectful Dannys: These people will say or do things at the most inappropriate times and in the most inappropriate ways. In essence, they are more subtle, grown up bullies. Maybe this person is a friend who you confided in and uses your secret against you. Maybe it is a family member who puts their busy-body nose into your affairs when it is none of their business. Or maybe, it is a colleague who says demeaning things to you.

* Why they are toxic: These people have no sense of boundaries and don't respect your feelings or, for that matter, your privacy. These people will cause you to feel frustrated and disrespected.

8. Never Enough Nellies: You can never give enough to these people to make them happy. They take you for granted and have unrealistic expectations of you. They find ways to continually fault you and never take responsibility for anything themselves.

* Why they are toxic: You will spend so much time trying to please them, that you will end up losing yourself in the process. They will require all of your time and energy, leaving you worn out and your own needs sacrificed.

All of these personalities have several things in common. 1) the more these people get away with their behavior, the more they will continue. 2) Unfortunately, most of these people don't see that what they do is wrong and as a result, talking to them about it will fall on deaf ears, leaving you wondering if you are the crazy one. 3) Most of these people get worse with age, making their impact on you stronger with time.

Frankly, life is too short to spend your time dealing with toxicity. If you can, avoid spending mucho time with people who are indicative of these behaviors and you'll feel a lot happier. Have you encountered these personalities? What have you done? Any personalities you would add?

Let's test this prediction out - The month ahead for June

Posted on May 29th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
Your Month Ahead Saturday, 30 May 2009

We still live in tense times but they're not as tense or as troubled as they were. In June, they get easier. Venus meets Mars. Jupiter changes direction. We all start to see new ways to solve problems relating to prosperity (or the lack of it) - and in the process we unleash creative energy. Expect exciting ideas to crop up, in conversation, on the news... and in your own life. And if it has been some while since you last felt a sense of romantic adventure... you can look forward soon, to rediscovering some of the magic that life always has when it is at its most enjoyable.

Laughing Yoga?? Yeh, with the dogs

Posted on May 30th, 2009 by Sherrilene : Living Ever Closer to Excellence! Sherrilene
My friend Mary Rives [maryrives.gaia.com] and her husband Keith have a lovely establishment named Laugher Incorporated and knowing my friend Mary, it is surely a fantastic place to go and just let it all out!

There, they feature Laughter Yoga, a concept that I am certain must be the solution to many of the world's problems in itself!

Well, given that I haven't yet had the opportunity to visit Mary and Keith and have a great session with them, I have been doing my own home yoga sessions and enjoying them immensely. It used to be strictly for the exercise benefits, the quiet mind outcomes etc.

Well, the benefits have just gone up even more, with the addition of my dogs to the mix, and the accompanying laughter!

You see, the dogs don't quite 'get' why their human is down there on the ground with them unless she must be coming to roll around with them! And so they insist on joining in and doing the stretches, ideally across me and under me, but not quite ever at their end of the carpet! When I'm too far out of reach, they just fill the time doing dog play things under my feet, nibbling at my toes etc.

What was most funny was their insistence on licking the perspiration off my forehead and neck and then lying prostrate at the end when I was in my resting pose, as if they were cooling down as well!

I have to admit, it was nice to realise that I could concentrate quite satisfactorily despite their obvious interference [which is something I couldn't say I have mastered in the presence of some humans]. I don't have the desire to banish the dogs to the outdoors for any of my regular activities because they do bring such clean energy to my home, so it was very pleasant that they gave me a good laugh as well. That made it quite worthwhile - indeed value added! - to have them stick around.

I actually think the activity wore them out. They got 'knocked out' promptly and fell asleep on the carpet almost immediately after I was done.

Never underestimate the energy expended from a yoga session!

Wishing everyone a great day! I know mine has been started on a fantastic note!

Best, always,

Namasté

Sherrilene
